Rudy

Rudy is a Bully Mix approximately 8 years old at the HugABull Advocacy & Rescue Society. Rudy is one of 23 dogs that were a part of a cruelty seizure.  Rudy is definitely the spunky one of the bunch! He’s a little social butterfly and loves meeting people. . .

Rudy is one of 23 dogs that were a part of a cruelty seizure that occured in Ontario as a result of a crime bust. All of these dogs were found chained where they undoubtedly spent all of their lives, suffering from abuse and neglect. Bullies In Need, who operate out of Ontario (where bully type dogs are illegal to own) took in all 23 dogs to save them from euthanasia. Rudy is definitely the spunky one of the bunch! He’s a little social butterfly and loves meeting people. He also seems to really like other canines but needs a little help with his manners. Despite not having access to toys previously, he LOVES to play with toys and rubber balls.

Rudy has the sweetest problem – it’s coined ‘happy tail’. He managed to split open the end of his tail from wagging it too hard and as a result, he’s had to have it bandaged for the last month while it heals. Another interesting fact about Rudy is that he loves food puzzles! His foster mom works his brain on a daily basis and he loves to go for walks around the neighborhood.

Scooter

Meet Scooter! Scooter is at the Langley Animal Protection Society. He is around three years old and has the most adorable tom cat cheeks . . .

This absolute love muffin was found brought into the shelter by a kind lady when he decided to get out of the cold and let himself into her apartment. Besides a nasty case of ear mites, Scooter was quite healthy for a cat living in the streets. Now his ears are all healed up, he was neutered, and he is looking for his furever home! Staff describe Scooter as a big teddy bear, all he wants to do is hangout and cuddle with anyone he meets. Scooter is around three years old and has the most adorable tom cat cheeks. We believe Scooter could live with other cats as he has a few cat friends here at the shelter, but he prefers lounging with his friends over playing with them. Scooter could also live with a polite dog and older children.

Crouton

An American pit bull terrier mix at the HugABull Advocacy & Rescue Society. She’s one of 23 dogs that were part of a cruelty seizure. Despite all she’s been through, Crouton is the sweetest little dog . . .

Bullies In Need, who operate out of Ontario (where bully type dogs are illegal to own) took in all 23 dogs to save them from euthanasia. Crouton is one of two dogs that we have been sent and she is the sweetest little dog. She is very affectionate and loves other dogs however, will need a quiet home with another social dog where she can continue to blossom.

We dubbed this girl Crouton, because she is so tiny and weighs approximately 35lbs. She LOVES to do the zoomies and will roll around on the couch (daily) until she falls off, only to get back on and do the same thing over again.

Rooney and Josie are extremely close 3 month old sisters who are going to need a patient, quieter home together.  They are very gentle girls who enjoy playtime and pets and reward you with the best purrs but are not quite ready for cuddles or being held.   Josie is the more outgoing of the two and quite active during playtime. Rooney relies on her sister to tell her things are “okay” but has learned that ear scritches and tummy rubs are pretty special.  They have not had any exposure to dogs or other cats. If you are interested in giving a special home to Rooney & Josie please head to lapsbc.ca to submit an adoption application.

Maisy

A senior bully mix at HugABull Advocacy & Rescue Society. Found wandering along the side of the road emaciated and she could barely open her eyes. Despite her neglect, Maisy is the most loving and sweet girl who is looking for a retirement home . . .

Maisy is a senior Bullly Mix. Poor Maisy was found wandering along the side of the road in the worst condition. She was emaciated, her eyes were so infected she could barely open them and her ears were full of gunk. Maisy’s skin was so infected that even touching it caused it to crack and bleed. Her nails were grown into the pads of her feet and she had maggots. She was truly a heartbreaking sight. Fast forward to three months later and you wouldn’t think she was the same dog. Despite Maisy’s neglect, she is the most loving and sweet girl who is looking for a retirement home. She gets along well with other animals and loves to be with people.

Despite being blind in one eye and somewhat deaf, Maisy’s nose has picked up the slack. This girl can find a tiny piece of kibble at the back of a fully stuffed closet – and she will. Maisy loves to eat anything and everything she can get her paws on. A fun fact about her? When she’s happy or playing, she makes dinosaur noises that are absolutely hilarious to listen to.

Mokey Bear

Meet Mokeybear! This absolutely handsome man is a 5.5 year old Russian Blue mix at the Langley Animal Protection Society. . .

This absolutely handsome man is a 5.5 year old Russian Blue mix. Mokeybear came to the Langley Animal Protection Society in early September as an owner surrender after his owner was unable to handle his strong personality. His previous owner stated Mokey has a very big personality and likes affection on his own terms. When Mokeybear was brought to the shelter he was quiet overweight. At a whopping 20 pounds, Mokey still has a bit of weight to lose, but overall he will always be a big man! Despite his large size, Mokey still loves to play and jump around with his toys (especially cat nip toys!). The best home for Mokeybear will be an experienced cat owner that is able to read his body language and is willing to give him his space if he has had enough. He could easily live with another respectful cat or dog, but a home with no kids would be best for him. If you are interested in Mokeybear, please head to lapsbc.ca to fill out an adoption application.

Sunny

Sunny is a 5-year-old German Shepherd at the Regional Animal Protection Society.  Sunny is an extremely smart (sometimes too smart) and goofy boy. He’s also a very loving and sweet boy who loves playing with balls and getting cuddles. . .

Sunny is an extremely smart (sometimes too smart) and goofy boy. He has a big, bold and sassy personality and almost always figures out ways of avoiding what he doesn’t enjoy. At the same time, he’s a very loving and sweet boy who loves playing with balls and getting cuddles. He is slowly learning games, such as fetch, and understanding that we are not trying to steal his ball. Our goal with training is for Sunny to trust the people in his life and be willing to share his toys without a dramatic performance.

We have come to learn that Sunny is not always a perfect pup. He requires a home with dog experience and a calm/confident handler who will create structure and set boundaries and is also is willing to continue Sunny’s training and socialization. Sunny does not like being leashed if he thinks it’s to be brought back to his kennel here and in turn he will have temper tantrums and mouth your hands when you try to grab his collar. He is very dramatic, vocal and large which in the past has scared people, allowing Sunny to get his way. Because of this Sunny thinks this naughty behaviour will always work for him and he will get what he wants. Therefore, we have been working hard on his training and showing him that his temper tantrums don’t phase us and that he will still need to complete the task. We are working with him on not being reactive when leashing him up or trying to pick up his drag leash and he is making a lot of progress. Overall, he has made big improvements since being at the Shelter, and if kept on the same path, will continue to do so.

Classic to German Shepherds, Sunny can get anxious and barky because he loves being around people, so a single home with a large yard would be great for him. Sunny needs a home where he is the only dog, and ideally the only pet, as we have not tested him with cats or other small animals. He likes to think of himself as the king of the castle and does not do well with sharing. Training him out of resource guarding is a hit and miss. There are some objects that he can be trained out of guarding, but at the same time there are some where he just won’t give them up. Someone willing to accept Sunny’s faults would be his dream human, and in return we are sure that they’ll be heavily rewarded with all of Sunny’s good qualities.

Gemma

Gemma and her son Beethoven (also in the HugABull program), came through the Farm Rescue, located in Victoria. Gemma had spent her life living in a yard and had puppies every heat (that’s A LOT of puppies) but not anymore! Gemma is now spayed and is living the good life! She still has lots to learn and they are working on helping her feel comfortable alone. She is the most snuggly dog that the staff have ever met and everyone that meets her instantly falls in love with her sweet face and demeanor.  Her tail wags non stop – so much so that her entire body moves. Her favorite thing to do is collect as many toys as she can possibly fit in her mouth and bring them to you while her helicopter tail wags away.

Meet Shadow! This incredibly handsome 7 year old man came to the Langley Animal Protection Society when his owner had to move and unfortunately could not take him with them.  Shadow was very shut down his first week in the shelter, but after some quality time with the LAPS staff, he opened up and became this absolute love. The ideal home for Shadow would be a patient home, with no young kids. Once shadow warms up he has endless amounts of love and cuddles to give, but it does take him a little while to gain that trust. We think shadow could potentially live with another cat or a very respectful dog. If you think you would be a good match for this adorable man, please head to lapsbc.ca to submit an adoption application.

Honey

Honey is an 11-month-old Bully Mix. She just joined the HugABull program a few weeks ago and is one of the sweetest and most insecure pups. . .

Honey was surrendered to the shelter by her owner who had requested to have her euthanized because of ‘severe’ behavioral issues. Honey joined the HugABull program a few weeks ago and is one of the sweetest and most insecure pups. It is clear she hasn’t had very much exposure or opportunities to socialize so she’s in foster care with the best person possible – Shelagh Begg, professional dog trainer and owner of Dizine Canine. Honey is learning what it’s like to live in a house and that the world is a safe place and not a scary one.

Baloo

Baloo is a Rottweiler at the Regional Animal Protection Society.  He is 1 year and 7 months old.  Baloo is a handsome and happy boy! He loves hanging with the staff at the shelter who care for him and of course getting lots of pets and treats! . . .

“Not to toot my own horn, but I’m a veryyyy handsome and happy boy. I love hanging with the hoomans at the shelter who care for me and getting lots of pets and treats. I have lots of energy when I meet new people and sometimes need to be reminded to be slow, careful and gentle. I try my best to listen but it’s definitely a skill I’m working on.

What about other doggo friends? Hmmm… I’m not a big fan of other boys. I’m the most handsomest and am also picky about which girls I like to hang out with. I like the ladies who are confident, and strong (like me!).

From what my hoomans here tell me, I need a confident person (no small hoomans please) who is comfortable with a strong boy like me. I love my food and will guard it with a passion, and am told that it is not a good thing. They have also called me naughty because sometimes I’m gentle and then I trick them and become overly playful….woopsy.

If you can work with me, I can work with you.”

Lunette

Lunette is a Domestic Short Hair and Tortoiseshell Mix about 4-year-olds at the Regional Animal Protection Society. This diva knows that she is the cutest and prettiest lady and will reel you in with her lovely personality to get all the pets and scritches that she can. . .

If you are looking for a very sassy cat who loves living on her own terms, then Lunette is the girl for you. This diva knows that she is the cutest and prettiest lady and will reel you in with her lovely personality to get all the pets and scritches that she can. However, once she is done with you she will very clearly let you know (at which point the diva must have her alone time). When we first met her we were all a bit intimidated by her sass, but as we got to know how she thinks she has grown on us. We give her as much attention and love as she wants and are sure to respect her space as well.

A great home for Lunette would be one that understands that she is not very cuddly, may not like being picked up, and that she does need to have her space. We feel she is best for a home where she is the only cat, and possible the only pet. She also will not do well with younger children ( ages 12 and over may be okay).

Schwartz is a 3-4 year old shepherd mix. He is the most gentle soul you will meet and just wants to be near his humans whenever he can ! He is super gentle when taking any treats, almost like he isn’t allowed, but he’s learning that treats are great ! Schwartz came to us from a high heart worm area so we decided to test him to make sure he was safe.  Unfortunately, Schwartz has tested positive for not only heart worm but also Lyme.  Both these illnesses can be fatal if not treated right away.   The price for Schwartz’ treatment is approximately 2200$.   He will need to undergo a couple months of treatment for the heart worm, and a 30 day high dose of mediation for the Lyme !  We will be looking for a foster to adopt for Schwartz for during his treatment, as it can take multiple months

Dewy

Dewy is a 1-2 year old at Endless Pawsabilities Animal Rescue Society. Dewy is looking for a home with another kitty friend. He’s very cuddly. . .

Dewy is about 1-2 years old and is already neutered and vaccinated. Dewy has shown some anxiety when being the only animal, so we are looking for a home with another kitty friend for him as this seems to really help him. Since he does prefer feline friends, we do think he could eventually be okay with a respectful dog but would need a proper introduction. Dewy is very cuddly and would love a home where he gets lots of attention and cuddles. If you let him, he will gladly watch tv with you or curl up on your bed at night.

Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) is a registered non-profit charitable society established in 2003 by a dedicated group of volunteers. Based at the Patti Dale Animal Shelter in Aldergrove, their staff and volunteers use a progressive and humane approach to care for more than 1400 dogs, cats and large animals each year. All animals that are cared for by LAPS benefit from environmental enrichment, frequent exercise, nutritious food and industry leading medical care.

Donate, purchase a stocking for animal in need, or learn more about their adoptable animals.

Founded in 2003, HugABull Advocacy & Rescue Society is a community committed to rescue, advocacy and outreach for bull breed dogs. They advocate for responsible ownership of all breeds and for evidence-based, breed-neutral laws in our communities. They are based in the Lower Mainland but service the entire province of BC.

If you’re not looking to adopt, consider donating to HugABull. They are also in need of kongs, large dog beds, treats and other toys.

Endless Pawsabilities Animal Rescue Society is located in the lower mainland. They work closely with Winnipeg rescue K9 advocates that rescue unwanted, neglected, and abused animals, often found in ditches, dumps, and fields. One thing that sets them apart from other rescues is that they try to match animals with adopters behind the scenes.  They have adopters come out sometimes and meet the animals upon arrival and do what they call a foster to adopt.  During this time, their adoption rate is quite high, as families get a longer trial with their animals before adopting

In addition to monetary donations used for medical cases, they are always in need of dog and cat supplies. Puppy pads, leashes, litter, food and crates.

The Regional Animal Protection Society operates the City of Richmond Animal Shelter, the RAPS Cat Sanctuary, a fostering network, social enterprise thrift stores and the full-service, community owned RAPS Animal Hospital. RAPS is proud to be a no-kill organization, which is among the reasons we have built a strong and devoted community of animal-loving allies.
