Buffalo Traffic Jam is bringing some existential folky alternative to your Monday morning with ‘Fool’s Gold’.
The indie-folk duo of Frankie Cassidy and Nathan Ross teamed up with producer Ryan Hadlock, who previously worked with Brandi Carlile and The Lumineers, and the influence is apparent in this week’s song.
While Nathan was away on a week-long family visit, Frankie holed himself up in their shared Bozeman, Montana apartment, writing as many songs as he could. ‘Fool’s Gold’ was one of those songs. Although Frankie was “unsure” of it and originally wrote an alternate version as a slower ballad. Upon Nathan’s return home, he was presented with both iterations of the song and definitively stated the slower version “quite frankly, kinda sucked”. And so, the kicky version we have today was born!
Speaking of the song, Frankie has said, “Sometimes what you want is not actually what you need. A lot of times, all we can think about is things in life that we think we can’t live without. The mind likes to play tricks on us and put false hopes in our heart. ‘Fool’s Gold’ explores these ideas and tells the story of someone who thinks they know exactly what they need, when all they really needed was some time to themselves.”
