The new single off their upcoming album, ‘Songs from the Wedding Cake’, ‘Meet Me In Love’ was conceived on the final day of a songwriting trip. Frontman Tom Ogden had accepted that they had exhausted their creative wells and that “there probably weren’t any more songs left to write” – until they started playing with a simple, two-chord disco groove. Within a couple of hours, “the whole thing seemed to fall into place”, and ‘Meet Me In Love’ was born.
“It’s one of those songs that felt exciting from the moment it arrived. I remember driving home from the Lakes listening to the demo on repeat for most of the journey. We later finished the recording with Shawn Lee at Tilehouse Studios, tracking live to tape, but a lot of what made us fall in love with the song in the first place came from that original demo, so plenty of those parts survived onto the final record.” Tom reflects.
He continued the vision by directing the music video, determined to turn it into a cinematic love-letter to old Hollywood and 70s disco glamour. Stating, “It’s colourful, romantic and a little bit surreal, which felt like the perfect visual for the song.” With backing vocals from Declan McKenna, the ‘Meet Me In Love’ video stars Maya Jama and Callum Scott Howells.
