From singing in church with his grandma to going to open mics at only 11 years old, he’s now taking the world by storm. It took 14 years for Myles Smith to become an “overnight success”, but his debut album, ‘My Mess, My Heart, My Life’, is finally here! Your latest PEAK Song of the Week – ‘Hold Me In The Dark’.
Myles ended up taking an unconventional trajectory with his career. Racking up over a billion streams, winning awards, and touring the world with the likes of Ed Sheeran – all before releasing his first full-length album! “I wanted to take the time to get it right,” says Myles, stating that his goal in writing the album was “to delve, in a visceral way, into real things that shaped the person who I am. It’s like the human experience in a box.”
Reflecting on the song’s origins, Smith divulges, “‘Hold Me In The Dark’ came from a really honest place. From feeling stuck in my own thoughts and not knowing how to get out of it.” Adding, “It’s that push and pull between trying to run from things and realising that sometimes you just need something or someone there with you. It’s not about fixing everything, it’s about not being alone in it.”
Catch Myles for the Vancouver stop of his headlining tour on August 4th at the Freedom Mobile Arch.
