City of Vancouver’s “Grate” Catch Basin Naming Contest
The City of Vancouver has launched a contest encouraging us Vancouverites to “adopt” one of our 45,000 “adoptable” catch basins across the city … if they’re given a cute punny name, maybe the residents will clean up the catch basins and there will be less flooding.
James thinks this is a “grate” idea, whereas I, Casey-Jo, am pissed off. Isn’t this what we pay taxes for?? I suppose this whole time we’ve been paying taxes for marketing companies to come up with cute little ideas like this. What’s next, adopting a garbage can or better yet, a salt truck?
Now the public has a chance to decide which of the contest participants has come up with the most creative name for their chosen “adoptee.” Some of the Catch Basin names that have been submitted are pretty funny though: The Grates of Wrath, to Grate Expectations, Ace of Basin’ and of course, Draino McDrainface.
Your vote would help someone win a $200 gift certificate to MEC for rain gear. One runner up will get $100 for boots, and second runner up will received a limited edition City of Vancouver umbrella.
