For The Record… Jakob Nowell is carrying a family legacy on your latest PEAK Song of the Week – ‘F.T.R’ by Sublime.
Just a few months ago, Sublime released their first album since 1996, entitled ‘Until the Sun Explodes’.
After briefly reforming for a charity performance and a 2024 Coachella gig, Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh decided to take on their friend and former lead vocalist Bradley Nowell’s son, Jakob, as Sublime’s new frontman and make the reformation permanent. Jakob was hesitant to step into the role his late father had carved out, but after a kismet visit to the Phoenix Theatre in Petaluma, California, the location of the final Sublime show before Bradley’s passing, Jakob realized he was ready to take on the mantle.
Together, they released the single ‘Ensenada’ last summer and began work on their 2026 album.
Talking about stepping into his late father’s shoes and performing with Bradley’s old bandmates, Jakob says, “Oh, dude, it’s the best.” Continuing, “We really feel like this is… like we’re a band, ya know?”
“It is. It’s his band too now. It’s our band.” Bud chimes in. “Amen,” replies Jakob.
Carrying the torch of a legacy and bringing your PEAK Song of the Week, it’s Sublime with ‘F.T.R’.
