Groove into Monday morning with ROLE MODEL, and your latest PEAK Song of the Week, ‘High Hope 3000’.
Hot off his upcoming album, Chuck Timely & The Hourglass, ‘High Hope 3000’ is the dawn of a new era for Role Model (born Tucker Pillsbury). After a public breakup with long-term girlfriend, Emma Chamberlain, he started penning an album about the “up-and-down period of being single.”
In fact, ‘High Hope 3000’ was one of the first songs Role Model wrote for the new album, and its line, “Does love come around or does one come around to it?”, became the question that the rest of the album set out to answer.
The concept of time is another major theme of the album, with Role Model stating that the common thread was, “about time and feeling a little bit stagnant in this two-year period of being single and dating and then not dating and feeling this pressure the entire time of, “All right, I’m getting older. I think I need…” — feeling a pressure to find love and all the questions that come with it.”
It’s also literally in the name of the character invented for the album, Chuck Timely – “someone who can represent that journey through time, someone who’s been there the whole time.” Chuck Timely is more of a concept character than a direct representation of Role Model himself, being described as “…a little bit pathetic, in a charming way.”
Over the course of creating the album, Chuck Timely’s mythos developed into that of a sort of musical time traveller. “We talk about Chuck every single day in the studio, and it was the most fun part, honestly. Once the songs were written, all we did was talk about Chuck.” Role Model reminisced, “We made up all these stories. I feel he was always in the background of photos with Michael Jackson for some reason, but also weirdly knows Olivia Rodrigo and has been through this journey through the decades.” He took the time to clarify that this isn’t a concept album, or “about Chuck”. Moreso, it’s “a journey through time with our boy Chuck”.
