After being teased in his Netflix documentary, ‘Out of Body’, Noah Kahan finally released his track and your PEAK Song of the Week, ‘Doors’, on his latest album, The Great Divide.
Once described as an “anxious-avoidant attachment anthem”, ‘Doors’ begins with a lively, driving beat that’s reminiscent of Stick Season, before doubling down into a mix of rousing crescendos and melancholy lyrics that only Noah Kahan himself could balance. Even with his knack for balancing words and melodies, Kahan struggled to write new lyrics under the pressure of outdoing the hugely popular Stick Season. He even came close to throwing in the towel, saying in an interview, “I had been so stressed and so lost and was literally thinking about quitting and going to work at my golf course as a divot repair person.”
Despite the weight on his shoulders, Kahan, with a little time and travel, overcame his writer’s block and penned The Great Divide. Offering insight into his process, he stated, “The songs are the words I would say if I could. They are the fears I dance with in the moments before I drift off to sleep. The music here is my best attempt to delve deeper into the people, places, and feelings that have made me who I am. I am grateful for all of it, for all of you, for listening to them, if you choose to do so.”
