Spring is here, a new week has started, and even Death Cab for Cutie is enjoying a new chapter. Fresh off their upcoming album, here’s ‘Riptides’.

After over 20 years of releasing music through Atlantic, Death Cab started their 2026 by signing a new deal with ANTI- Records. The first thing on their mind? A new album, of course – with ‘Riptides‘ serving as the first single.

After ‘exorcising’ their nostalgia on recent anniversary tours, guitarist Dave Depper said, “We felt part of this powerful force greater than all of us and went into the studio with a sense of, how can we capture that feeling and put it into something new?”

Of the new song, frontman Ben Gibbard explains, “‘Riptides’ is about the challenge of dealing with overwhelming grief as the world around us experiences tragedy and loss on an unfathomable scale, and how, when these two elements intertwine themselves in our psyches, it feels utterly paralyzing.”

Death Cab’s 11th studio album, ‘I Built You a Tower’, releases June 5th.
