Emily’s Top 5 Shows You Should Watch from 2020
We were all glued to our screens this year, and lucky for us the Big Streaming Platforms had lots of excellent content. It was hard to pick just 5, but I narrowed down my list to the ones that brought me the most joy, captivated me or were just fun to watch!
Big Mouth
This is one of THE BEST shows out of Neflix in the last few years- Big Mouth tackles growing up, puberty and all the messiness of being a teenager in the most sincere and funny way. Hormone Monsters, Depression Cat and Tito the Anxiety Mosquito guide the kids through growing up- you NEED to hear Maya Rudolph as the Hormone Monstress say Bubble Bath.
Schitt’s Creek
The little Canadian Show That Could – Schitt’s Creek BLEW UP in the last 2 seasons and captured hearts all over the world. This show provides joy, inclusivity, delightful family hardships and love. The last season wraps it all up so perfectly, and if you need more they did a mini doc about the last season- I cried THE WHOLE TIME.
Dracula
If you are a fan of vampire lore- this is a great spin on a classic. It’s based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula, following the Count as he travels from Transylvania to London. It’s REALLY gory (I mean duh, it’s Dracula), visceral and intense. Claes Bang, who plays Dracula, does an ABSOLUTELY fantastic and horrifying job of playing the Count- I crushed this 3 part series in just 2 days.
The Boys
When the second season first dropped. all my friends were saying how much more violent and shocking this season was. Here I am thinking nawww it can’t be worse than the first season – I WAS WRONG. The Boys is such a great and dark twist on the superhero take and season 2 really went for it.
Shrill
Shrill is based on a book and Aidy Bryant (you’ll know her from SNL) makes this the funniest, most honest and sincere show on TV. This show relates to all the pains you experience while being a fat person who is just trying live their best life. All bodies are beautiful and deserve love, and this show really shows you that. The power of seeing someone with a plus-sized body experience love and joy in a thoughtful and powerful way is incredible- this is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time, and its getting a third season!
