David Bowie-2 years gone
I think when I was awoken, by my girlfriend to the news of David Bowie’s passing. It felt like an old friend that left too soon. I was bummed, and I used it as an opportunity to go deep on David’s immense catalogue.
Being a big fan of David Bowie, I discovered his music like a lot of others did with albums like, Let’s Dance and various Greatest Hits packages. I devoured anything I could read about David, watched every video, movie and watched a zillion interviews with him on youtube throughout his life. I liked him because he always kept you guessing, and even if I was just discovering albums/songs that had been out for 20 years. It all sounded like nothing I had ever experienced before.
Blackstar, his goodbye gift released the weekend he passed away was truly a goodbye gift to us all. It really is as great as people say, including the tubby fella hitting these keys.
Back in May of 2017, I was at BC Place, (the first place I saw Bowie in concert). It was the first show of the Joshua Tree Tour, and U2 were blaring David’s song “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)”. I was jammed up front on the floor, and it was really emotional for a few minutes. You could hear people cheering for David, and singing the song. What a moment.
Take minute today and listen to some Bowie. I’ll be playing some of his music on the Noon Hour Takeover.
