I’ve received multiple messages this morning, saying it’s insensitive of us to continue to do our program in it’s normal capacity after a tragedy such as Vegas. And I’ll admit it isn’t easy to try and laugh on a morning like this, but I disagree completely with changing the show up. I wish this was the first morning we’ve had to go on the air after such a tragedy, but it isn’t. I’ve faced this criticism before and I ask you to hear me out for a minute…
I think the best thing any of us can do on a day like today is continue to live, to love with all of our hearts, and to walk around absolutely fearless. No we shouldn’t forget about the victims, families and the suffering going on. But we also shouldn’t let a hate fuelled monster dictate how we live. That’s what these people want. They want us to be angry, they want us to be filled with a rage for the world that they feel. They want us to be scared of the world, and of each other. And personally I refuse. I refuse to let these people taint my view of the world. I refuse to let them make me scared to trust and love. I refuse to let them influence my life. I refuse to let my anger take over.
It’s human nature to search for an answer in face of a tragedy. To give rhyme or reason to crisis. To search for a scapegoat to help ourselves with grieve and confusion. But it takes courage to realize and accept that their isn’t an answer for every question you have. So don’t fall into the trap of speculation today. Don’t let your anger blossom into hatred. Don’t let your need for an answer, lead you down a path of bigotry or ignorance.
The world we love belongs to us. The 99.9% who just want happiness for ourselves and others. Not them. Don’t give in. Stand up. Love each other. And we’ll kill them with kindness.
